Interested in Cooking?

Think of cooking at EggFest as cooking for your family! There is NO competition here – just a bunch of Egg-Heads who love their grills and love to show off their favorite dishes. You are welcome to prepare anything you’d like. We do suggest you incorporate a menu that allows you to participate all day. Remember that your food will be sampled – although an average of 175 people attend the Pittsburgh EggFest each year, your job is not to feed them a meal or a real portion of your dish. “Tasters” will be sampling food all day – they just want a bite! Be prepared to cut your food into bite sized pieces to hand out.

If you wish to “share” an egg with another cook, let us know and we can give you a time spot instead of reserving an egg for the entire day. This is a good option for those who want to try out cooking the first time or just have one signature dish to prepare. We have a limited number of eggs available and need to make the best use of time.

Here is a sample menu from one of our cooks last year:

  • morning: honey glazed sweet rolls ( indirect 30 mins)
  • late morning / early afternoon: cheeseburger sliders
  • afternoon: flatbread pizza
  • afternoon: chicken fajitas on mini tortillas
  • afternoon: stuffed mushrooms
  • afternoon: bruschetta on toasted baguettes
  • afternoon: pineapple upside down cake

The eggs will be set up under a tent. You do not need to bring your own tent. Please bring chairs. Hearth & Home will supply an 8’ table for you to share with another cook.We set up one egg at each end of the table. If you need an additional table – please feel free to bring one. We provide serving boats ( cardboard), forks, and napkins. Please remember to bring anything your recipes require ( thermometer, measuring cups / spoons, BBQ tools, etc.) If your dish requires something other than this to serve, please bring your own serving dishes.

Bring a cooler and / or ice to keep your food to a safe temperature. There is NOT running water aside from the public restrooms.

We love our cooks! Thank you to all who have cooked at the Pittsburgh EggFest in the past – this event would not be possible without your support! In appreciation of our cooks – we are giving you a Hearth & Home gift certificate and an event T-Shirt. Please bring your food receipts – we will reimburse up to 50% of your food costs ( up to $75). Cooks may bring along one friend or family member to assist them at no charge. Any other family, friends and fans will need to purchase a taster ticket.
